Minnesota Trappers Association
 2014 Trapper Education Classes

Attention Prospective Trapper Education Students
As it appears in the Minnesota Hunting and Trapping Regulations Handbook

Persons born after December 31, 1989, who have not been issued at trapping license in a previous year may not obtain a trapping license without a trapper education certificate.  The Minnesota Trappers Association will conduct trapper education courses statewide, free of charge to the participants, and issue certificates that satisfy this trapping license requirement.  Contact the MTA at http://www.mntrappers.org/ for class information. These courses include a mandatory field training portion that MUST be completed before certification.  Please plan to take certification courses well in advance of the fur trapping season.

ATTENTION NON-MINNESOTA RESIDENTS

There apparently has been some confusion on the part of some non-residents regarding MN Trapper Certification.

At this time, non-residents of Minnesota are not permitted to trap in this state with or without a certification.  The only exception being those owning land in Minnesota are permitted to trap the land they own.  Although everyone is welcome to complete the Minnesota Trapper Education Course - it will have no bearing on non-residents being allowed to trap in Minnesota.

TRAPPING SEASON HAS BEGUN STATEWIDE - ALL TRAPPER EDUCATION FIELD TRAINING COURSES HAVE BEEN COMPLETED FOR THIS SESSION.

Please review all of the In Field Training information on the online course page.  The document Field Training Options outlines an alternative to complete the field training requirement with a volunteer instructor you make individual arrangements with during this hectic time of year.

Important Information for Trapper Education Students

Enrolling in traditional courses and/or participation at In Field Training activities, with a certified instructor, requires a signed Student Registration/Parental Release Form in order to attend.

Minor students are encouraged to have their parents sign this form and provide all requested information in advance; and bring this for the the first class or field day activity.  The alternative being the parent/guardian must attend initial class or field day with student in order to sign form and provide requested information.

Adult participants may fill out and sign the form on location.

Those without a signed form will not be permitted to continue with the class or field day activity, with a certified instructor, until the completed form has been received by the instructor.
