District 4

Director Report

District 4 held its fall meeting on December 4th at Vern’s Trapping Supplies south of Garrison. About 65 trappers were in attendance. We discussed the possibility of having a longer raccoon season and of opening the trapping season earlier than 9:00 AM on opening day. Our members were about equally divided on both topics. We also heard a report on the lynx lawsuit. Wayne Thom also gave us a short update on the NTA.

In our district election, Gary Strand and I were nominated for Director - Buzz Neprud, Joe Davis and Dave D’Aigle were nominated for co-directors. I was reelected director and Buzz and Joe were reelected co-directors. I would like to thank three people who helped make our meeting a big success. Vern Liebold for supplying the refreshments, and the use of his shop for our meeting; Dave Kantz of the Aitkin DNR Wildlife Office for tagging our fur, and Scott Johnson from Johnson Fur in Willmar for coming to buy fur.

Thanks Guys.
Rod

Co-Director Report

It’s a sad time of the year; Red fox, Coyotes, Coon and Mink have little value so it’s time to leave them for seed. Gray fox and Beaver are fantastic, at least grays for a little while longer.

Our winter convention is over. It was a fun time. Very well organized and well attended.

By the time you read this, the hearing on the lawsuit will have been held. Check Gary’s report for any details. District 4 will be holding a spring meeting in April. Details next month.

Thanks to all members who voted for me at our last meeting in December.

Until next time,
Buzz

Co-Director Report

I'd like to thank District 4 for electing me as one of your co-directors. I appreciate it. Hopefully I can throw at you a few items that won’t repeat what Rod or Buzz will write. The first is to thank you and to urge you to keep up the good job of donating fur for the tanned fur project. District 4 is holding its own from what I saw at the winter meeting. Let’s keep the fur coming in.

Another is the raffle gun being donated by our district. We have collected over half so far, and need to collect $115 more. Please help out if you can.

Thanks goes out to Vern Leibold and family for letting us hold our fall meeting at his trap supply building. It was a good turn-out and I hope we can have more meetings there in the future.

Also thanks to Dave Kantz for registering fur. We appreciate your many efforts. Don't be afraid to give me a holler. Keep your boots dry beaver trapping this Spring.

Joe
