Dear MOHA Members, Sportsmen and Women of Minnesota:
This is a critical time for Dedicated Funding in Minnesota. We are as close as we have ever been, in 10 years of fighting for this enabling legislation, to establishing a permanent fund for fish, game and clean water in Minnesota. Now is the time to come to the aid of our great outdoors. It is imperative that the leaders of the hunting, fishing, trapping, shooting and other outdoor groups in Minnesota encourage their members to ask their State Representative or House Member to vote for legislation establishing a citizen's council to help the Legislature make sure that the hundreds of millions of dollars generated under this amendment go for their intended purpose which is to enhance our wetlands, lakes and other waterways and help bring back the environment that gave us such excellent hunting and fishing 60 years ago. Senator Satveer Chaudhary recently passed a bill out of his Environment and Natural Resources Committee that would create such a council. This is his quote in the Star Tribune on Sunday. "If sportsmen want to have a say in - how dedicated funding money is spent, - they absolutely have to contact their member in the Minnesota House," - Sen. Satveer Chaudhary, - Star Tribune | Sunday March 9, 2008
Please take a few minutes of your time today to either call or e-mail your State Representative and ask them to vote for a citizen's council when such a bill is introduced this week. Also, ask them to consider signing on to such a bill as a cosponsor. Refer to Senator Chaudhary's bill SF3488. Go to the House of Representatives website and you will find your legislator and the correct e-mail address plus phone numbers. www.house.leg.state.mn.us Remember, legislators do respond to their constituents. You elect them!

Our new session is right around the corner, and this could be the very best year for Minnesota Outdoors if we do get the opportunity to vote on the Designated Funding for the Outdoor Amendment. Visit our NEW WEB SITE at www.MOHAhuntfish.org and feel free to comment and add your local events to our Events Calendar. Yes it's free. You can check out what is happening in and with all the outdoor organizations by checking this site regularly. Get the fastest and most current information about what is happening in the legislature, once this session is in full swing, by visiting this site.
Our Annual MOHA Legislative Banquet is set for the 20th of February 2008. This may just be the year to attend if you have not attended before. It would really be a HOOT to have a couple of tables full of trappers in attendance this year, (I get a bit lonely being the only one around). Raffles, Silent Auctions, and 30 to 60 legislators to communicate with, plus a dinner that makes this one of the best times around. Your attendance has a great impact when the Legislator sees your name tags and table reserve labels, plus MOHA always seats two or more Legislators at reserved tables. Let's attend this year, or at least coerce your Board of Directors to be there for you!
Check us out, we're the ones protecting and working for you at the bi-weekly Sportsman Legislature Caucasus.
